RENOVATION AND EXPANSION OF MICROBIAL DISEASES LABORATORY, Department of Health, State of California  01/25/00


SITE CONDITIONS

Existing 9,000 square feet space on third floor of Department of Health building, Berkeley, CA. Renovate 5,000 square feet of existing laboratory space, and convert 4,000 square feet of office space into new laboratory space.

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Develop contract documents for biological laboratory. Satisfy all functional, safety and user requirements including air filtration, air pressure differentials, sterility, failure alarms and relocation of fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, laboratory casework and utilities.

 

CLIENT EXPECTATIONS

Satisfy trio of clients with equal but differing requirements. Satisfy Office of the State Architect, concerned with schedule and budget; satisfy Department of Health, concerned with administration and maintenance; and satisfy the users, concerned with efficient and safe operations. Continuously involve users in design development process.

Client Comment

An integral part of the design development process of this biological 
laboratory was user involvement in the relocation 
of biological safety cabinets, fume hoods, 
 laboratory casework and utilities.
